Library "Ambiance"
The Library is intended to be a quiet place for study and research. Noise should be kept to a minimum, and quiet talking only will be allowed. Four group study rooms with networked PCs are available in the Library for students who need to work together. These can be reserved in advance at the Circulation and Refrence Desks. Please show respect for your fellow students and keep the noise level to a minimum. Students causing a disruption will be asked to leave the Library.
Cell phones must be turned off while using the Library.
Services
Collections:
The Library collection includes books, periodicals, audiovisuals and electronic resources. Currently, the Library owns approximately 19,000 book titles and is approaching its goal of 20,000. Approximately 100 periodical subscriptions are maintained, while an additional 4,000 periodicals are available full text through databases accessed from the Library web page. Several hundred videocassettes round out the physical collection. Electronic resources, including 12,000 E-Books, are extensive.
Reference Assistance:
The staff of the Library will do everything possible to assist you in your research. Student Staff can help with general questions and database searching. For more specific questions or in-depth assistance with research strategies, please see the Library Director or Library Assistants. Also, DeVry University librarians staff an online reference service during the hours of 12-9pm Monday-Thursday, 12-7pm Friday, and 10am-4pm Saturday. Please click here for this real time "chat" reference service.
Classroom Instruction:
The Library Staff conducts in-class presentations at the invitation of the Instructor. Presentations can be general in nature or tailored to the specific topics or assignments of the class. Research strategies, database searching and the Internet are some of the topics covered. If you feel that your class would benefit from such a presentation, ask your Instructor to contact the Library Staff.
Interlibrary Loan:
The Library is a member of the DuPage Library System, Illinet, and OCLC. Therefore, we can obtain materials not owned by our library through a service called Interlibrary Loan. Check WorldCat (one of the First Search databases) for holdings at other libraries around the country.
Group Study Rooms:
Four group study or conference rooms are available in the library for students needing to work together. The rooms are reserved in advance at the Circulation and Refrence Desk. Ask our Student Assistants for help.
Individual Study Space:
Space for independent study is available at tables or carrels. Most of the study carrels are networked and laptop ready.
Audiovisual Equipment:
TV/VCR monitors are available for viewing videocassettes in the Library.
